Questions before Hiring a VA

Handling the responsibilities of a business alone can be the toughest task on this planet. Sooner or later you realize that you need an assistant if you do not want to lose your sanity. The client’s rush and the personal life commitments can drive any person crazy if he does not have an assistant to help with the office tasks. Hiring a virtual assistant is more feasible than to hire an assistant in your office. With the VA you are not only spared a lot of money to be spent each month, but you also get a lot of peace of mind. Here are some important questions worth asking yourself before you begin hunting a virtual administrative assistant

What are the tasks that you need to be completed by the VA?

This is a simple yet tricky question, most of the time we make haste in hiring a person. Then after the hiring is done, we have no work to forward. This can be a bad thing because you will have to pay your employee without handing him any work. Soon the hard reality hits you and you ask him to depart. Firing without a reason is discouraged because once you have fired someone he will not be returning back. And if he was a potential candidate, then it is your baddest luck because good employees are really hard to find.

Are you comfortable with a VA?

To hire a VA you must have a good set of equipment in the office. You must have an internet connection and a good computer which can handle massive data transfer without crashing. If you have a worn out PC and you still use the mobile phone which you purchased a decade ago, you will not be able to handle online communication. If you are familiar with the internet and can send and receive emails without calling for someone’s help, then only a VA would be suitable for you.

How many hours do you need the VA to work for you?

Again it would relate to the number one question because it requires the amount of work to be verified before hiring. VA’s are hired by the hour, or if you have a greater amount of work to give, then you can ask for a monthly fee. In either case, it depends on how much work will you be allotting to your virtual administrative assistant. If you have work that would last only a week or a month, then hire the VA by the hour. This would save you the trouble of going through a lengthy contract and also you will be paying less.
